How to take a screenshot on mac

To take a screenshot on Mac OS, you need to press the keys

Shift + Command + 3

as it shown on the picture:

After you press a combination of these buttons, your mac will take a snapshot of the entire screen. The file name is assigned according to the time at which it was made, for example: “Screen shot 2019-03-23 at 07.11.00 PM.png”.

Нow to take a snapshot of one part of the screen

Press the keys

Shift + Command + 4

as it shown on the picture:

After pressing these keys with the cursor, you can select the desired area for the snapshot (or you can press the spacebar and take a picture of the desired area). The file name is also assigned according to the time in which it was created, for example: “Screenshot 2019-04-24 ​​at 08.14.00 AM.png” and saved to the desktop.

How to take a screen shot using a touch bar (for  macOS Sierra 10.12.2 or later)

Press the keys

Shift + Command + 6

as it shown on the picture:

After that, your mac will take a snapshot of the entire touchpad. The file is also saved on the desktop.

All screenshots can be found on the desktop or in the search using the finder. Just enter today’s date in the search box and select the file you need.

If you need to copy the image to the clipboard without saving the file

for this you just need to press the key Control together with any of the previous combinations. After pressing these keys, the image is saved to the clipboard.

To use this screenshot, simply open the desired document or file, move the cursor to the right place and press the Command + V keys, or go to the menu: edit > paste

If for some reason you cannot use the key combination, you can take a screenshot using the preview application.

How to change the format of the screenshot when saving a file

If you want to change the image format using Preview, save the file and select one of the JPG, TIFF, PDF, PNG.
